Lectors serve by reading the Old and New Testament Readings and the Prayers of the Faithful at weekend Masses. New lectors will be asked to audition and will be trained before they begin their service.
Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion distribute the Eucharist at weekend Masses. They must complete an affidavit demonstrating that they are Catholics in good standing, participate in training, and receive a mandate from the Bishop of Peoria before they can serve.
Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion also perform a valuable service by bringing Communion to the sick, homebound and shut-ins of the parish.
Altar Servers assist the priest during the Mass by carrying the Roman Missal, cross and candles, and by bringing the sacred vessels to and from the altar. Children may begin serving in their fifth grade year and must be trained beforehand.
Ushers help by distributing missalettes before Mass and bulletins after Mass. They select gift bearers and take up the collection. They also help direct traffic during Communion and make sure the handicapped receive Communion.
