“Be still and know that I am God.” Ps. 46:10
on this very moment before God.
Now I listen prayerfully to the stunning words spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “The spirit of the Lord God is upon me … He has sent me to bring glad tidings to the lowly, to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives… to comfort all who mourn.”
I remember that Jesus chose those very words in the Gospel of Luke to describe his ministry and his whole purpose for coming into the world on Christmas morning.
Now, in the light of my Baptism, my Confirmation, and my partaking of the Eucharist, I realize that the same Spirit that moved Jesus to identify himself with these inspired words is now nudging me to acknowledge maybe for the first time!- that this is a description of my calling as well. I am to be the same and to do the same!
Come, Lord Jesus. Come into my heart and prepare the way for You. Come and take me by the hand to lead me into the same mission You embraced. Come and heal and comfort my ever fearful soul. Come and fill me with the grace of courage.
Reflection: What keeps me from embracing this same mission? What holds me back? What gets in the way?
